College, school, and program-based advising units collaborate on campus-wide student success initiatives and work toward common advising outcomes, including a sense of belonging, a growth mindset, and optimized degree planning and career goals. Advisors participate in cross-training and professional certification that support these initiatives and other principles of good practice.

The training and professional development offered by the Office of Undergraduate Education, and in collaboration with our campus partners, provides opportunities to help our professional staff grow and develop in the advising profession. Sessions include welcoming and onboarding functions, workshops, professional development sessions, webinars, and the annual advising community conference. The foundation of all training and development efforts are based on the NACADA (the Global Organization for Academic Advisors) Core Competencies: Conceptual, Informational, and Relational.

As our training and professional development sessions are a collaborative effort, please share any ideas you have with the Program Director of Advisor Training, Development, and Assessment in the Office of Undergraduate Education.
